One of the most stressful things about breastfeeding and pumping can be not having the supplies you need. Make your bag work for you but here are some things to think about having in your bag.

Packing the perfect breast pump bag doesn't have to be overwhelming! 👜

👉 We've got you covered with our top tips to make your pumping sessions a breeze. From the essentials you can't forget, to smart things to keep handy.

Must-Haves for any breastpump bag:

🔌 Grab the essentials with your pump, ALL of the parts (flanges, gaskets, tubing, batteries, charging cords, connectors, and bottles).

🧼 Keep it clean with sanitizing wipes for your hands and pump parts, plus use a waterproof resealable bag to store wet pump parts before heading home.

🍼 Keep your milk safe with storage bags or containers, ice packs, an insulated bag and a permanent marker to label the date & amount.

🧠 Be prepared with a manual pump in case the worst happens, or battery charger for those on-the-go moments.

🎒 It's nice to have things like nursing pads for leaks, an extra shirt incase yours gets milk on it, and of course plenty of photos & videos of your baby to help with letdown!

Breastmilk constantly adjusts to meet your baby’s needs. Changing your milk temperature by up to two degrees is just one way your breastmilk can adapt to increase or decrease your baby’s body temperature.

Keeping your baby skin-to-skin at the breast will also help to regulate your baby’s body temperature and allows your baby (and you!) to practice and learn how to breastfeed.

Understanding your options if you do use formula. I do however recommend getting milk from a Milk bank as well. Donor milk is donated, tested and distributed to moms in need.

Are you one of the families impacted by the formula shortage? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends some Dos and Don’ts while the shortage persists.

For families needing donor milk or eager to help by offering donor milk (there’s also a national donor shortage), there are local organizations for peer-to-peer human milk donation. and both have local chapters to help.

For folks interested in relactation, learn more at the link in the comments. Note that relactation takes considerable time and resources, as well, so it’s important to address immediate needs first.

This is easier said than done. Don't mistake that there may be other children to take care of, or chores around the house, dinner may need to be prepped and cooked. Gove parents the gift of actual HELP!

Stop telling moms to sleep when the baby sleeps. She knows she should sleep when she can. And to be honest, she would love to lay around with her new baby sleeping all day. But she can't.

"I need to eat in peace"
"I need to pump"
"I need alone time"
"I need to clean"
"I need to catch up on laundry"
"I need to spend time with my other kids"
"I need to do some work"
"I need to cook"
"I need to shower"

Instead of telling a new mom to sleep when the baby sleeps, try offering to help!

"I will hold the baby while you shower"
"I will wash the dishes"
"I'll bring dinner by tomorrow"
"Let me take the older kids out for the afternoon"
"Why don't I make a cup of coffee for you"
"I will fold the laundry"

New moms need help. They may not ask for it because in today's world you are suppose to snapback to your original size and routine and keep going as if you didn't just birth a baby. But they do. So check in, drop off a meal, or schedule a time to come by and help out!

This documentary is a must watch. Don't take lightly the disparities in our health system. Remember that so many women have gone through the struggle for us to know better. The information that is being taught is outdated and does not allow doctors to treat patients equally. Doulas are one of the advocates that are here to support women in maternity and beyond. Take care of yourself. Go watch!
