Tennessee Bill Proposes Mandatory Security Glazing for Schools

A bill introduced in Tennessee aims to enhance school security by requiring the installation of forced-entry-resistant glazing in public school buildings. According to USGlass Magazine, the legislation mandates that any public school, including charter schools, constructed or renovated between July 1, 2023, and July 1, 2025, must incorporate transparent, entry-resistant film on exterior and basement windows and doors.

Beginning July 1, 2025, the bill requires all public schools to install transparent security film or security glazing that complies with the national ASTM F3561 standard for forced-entry resistance. This requirement applies to exterior entry points, doors, adjoining glazed areas, and secure interior vestibules.
