🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨

Donald Trump issued a sweeping memo on Monday, halting ALL federal grants, loans, and financial assistance programs. 😱

πŸ“„ In a memo by Matthew J. Vaeth, acting director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, federal agencies have been directed to temporarily pause all programs to align them with Trump’s agenda.
🚫 This includes bans on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and limits on clean energy spending.

❗️ What does this mean?
This decision jeopardizes critical funding for:
πŸ”¬ Sickle Cell research
πŸ’Š Gene cell therapy
🀝 Community-based organizations (CBOs) providing support to the Sickle Cell community

This is not the first attack on marginalized and disabled communities. Last time, Sickle Cell gene therapy was completely removed from the budget. 😑

πŸ’” Why would any administration choose to harm disabled individuals and communities in this way?

Please contact federal representatives today to make your voice know today that this is unaccdptable. These are our tax dollars, not those running it.

The sickle cell community has many strong advocates and Frank Reddick was one. We would like those to celebrate his memory in passing last month. May he rest.

Frank Reddick passed on Dec. 23, 2024. Frank was the president and CEO of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Florida, an SCDAA member organization headquartered in Tampa. He was a steadfast sickle cell advocate and was the head of the Florida state sickle cell chapters. As a former Tampa city councilman, Frank was a respected leader in his local community.

APSCA Harford, Cecil, and Eastern Shore sends our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.
