Please welcome our newest student intern @keannealamo 👋 aka “Ke”
Keanne was born in London & raised in Dallas, TX. She is currently a sophomore at Hardin-Simmons @hsutx and is majoring in Exercise Science/Pre-PT. Keanne is part of the HSU Women’s soccer team, played for the Philippine Youth National Soccer Team 2018-2020 and played for the Philippine Women’s National Soccer Team that qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World cup. ⚽️🏆She also volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters, is a soccer coach for HSU kids’ camps, and provides private soccer training sessions. @hsuathletics @hsu_wsoc
Alongside her internship experience at BWPT, you may also see Ke in a patient role…working hard to recover from her recent ACL surgery. This girl knows how to work hard and will have a unique perspective & empathy for her future patients. 💪🏼

POV: You’ve been stretching that “tight” muscle for a hot minute and nothing improves 😭
…maybe it’s time to go see a DPT to identify the WHY 👍
It’s not to say that stretching shouldn’t be done at all, but it’s recommended to approach it in a more comprehensive way such as strengthening exercises to address the underlying issues & a specific stretching prescription that’s helpful & not a waste of your time.
Other considerations:
🧐Over stretching causes more issues:
If you only stretch the tight muscles, you may be perpetuating the underlying muscle imbalances that caused the tightness in the first place.
🧐 Stretching may not address the root cause: Tight hamstrings and hip flexors are often a sign of underlying issues such as weakness and being under-trained, weakness is surrounding muscles such as the glutes/core, muscle imbalances, poor posture, or biomechanical issues.

Join us next Saturday for the inaugural Carry for the Kids ruck event benefiting Community in Schools of the Big Country. 📚
🗓️When: Sat. Dec. 7th, 7-11 a.m.
*8:00 a.m. start time for all ruck divisions (5K, 10K, 15K). 🏃🏁
📍Where: E. North 10th Street & Loop 322 Abilene (across from Winter Lightfest)
🤔What: “Rucking” involves walking or hiking while carrying a weighted backpack or vest, also known as a “ruck.” For this event, please bring your backpack or weighted wearable container. We will have sand & scales available to stuff your ruck (see post for prescribed weights). You are also welcome to walk or run the course “ruck free.” All proceeds go directly towards providing resources & support for students in the Big Country! 👍

What if the weather is bad? - Rain or shine, we are rucking! This is a non-refundable event.
Where should I park? - There will be plenty of parking on site & volunteers to direct you to the perfect spot. 🚘
What should I wear? - This is an off road trail with rocky terrain so dress for the weather & wear close-toed shoes. 🥾
What if I want to stuff my own bag or bring my own weight vest/ruck? - Go for it! We also recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated. 💦
Will there be coffee or hot drinks? - DUH! @thefarmhouse_abi will be on site ready to keep you warm & caffeinated for your trip down the trail. ☕️

Let’s talk backpack ergonomics…aka, best practices to use your school backpack for good and not as a contributing source of low back pain 🤪
Tips:
✅ keep the weight under 5-8 lbs! Or lighter
✅ take advantage of lockers & storing heavy items in a safe space/classroom at school
✅ only pack what’s necessary
✅ use both straps! If super light, of course you can alone it over the shoulder, but we’re talking notebooks only kinda light (do kids still write in notebooks? Lord we sure we hope so 🤨)
✅ adjust straps so the backpack fits comfortably between your shoulders & hips, saggy backpacks are from the 90s…let it die)
Drop a 🎒 in the comments in you or your kid’s backpack weighs over 8 lbs! If your kids need a 3rd party “talkin’ to”…we got you covered 😉
