Not all hunger feels the same.
Emotional hunger often hits like a lightning bolt - sudden, intense, and specific. It usually centers around a craving, a feeling, or a need for comfort.
Physical hunger, on the other hand, builds gradually. It’s rooted in your body’s biological need for fuel and isn’t tied to one particular food or emotion.
Understanding the difference can help you respond with awareness instead of judgment.
At Nurtured Nutrition, we believe that all hunger is valid - but learning to identify its source can empower you to meet your needs with more intention.

When we chronically undereat, our body's natural response is to slow down its metabolic processes. Ghrelin, the body's primary hunger hormone, is one of many variables that initiate this adaptive response within the body. This adaptation can happen after just ONE week.
We often reduce the complicated web of bodily systems (our metabolism) to a simple math equation.
However, it may be useful to think of our metabolism as a control panel, with thousands of knobs that correspond to different functions within the body. Our bodies are consistently adjusting these knobs according to our energy-intake.
Low energy intake? Turn down the hair maintenance knob, or immune system support, or possibly consider slowing digestive function. While you're at it, increase the process by which we STORE nutrients if at all possible.
This isn't your body working against you. It's your body protecting you from what it perceives as a threat: starvation. What may look like "willpower" on the outside is actually triggering biological responses that can work against your long-term health goals.
Your body doesn’t need punishment. It needs nourishment. It needs balance. And it needs to trust that fact that food is around, and easily accessible.

Ever notice how meals can sometimes feel like just another task on the to-do list?
We get it. Life moves fast. But your body? It thrives in slowness.
When we slow down, we create space to actually experience our food—its texture, taste, and the way it makes us feel.
When we pause between bites, we give our fullness cues time to gently speak up.
And when we bring awareness to our meals, we invite in satisfaction—not stress.
At Nurtured Nutrition, we believe in eating as an act of care—not control.
There’s no “right” pace, just your pace. And we're here to help you find it.
If you’re craving more ease and less pressure around food, you’re not alone.
You’re welcome here—just as you are.

You are not “bad” for what you eat.
If you’ve ever felt that quiet guilt after a meal…
If certain foods leave you second-guessing or feeling uneasy…
Please know — you are not alone, and you are not broken.
So many of us have been taught to carry shame around food.
To believe that our choices reflect our worth.
But the truth is: food has no moral value.
At Nurtured Nutrition, we hold space for the messy, tender parts of this journey.
We help you gently explore where those feelings come from — and begin to soften them. With curiosity. With compassion. With care.
You deserve to feel safe with food.
You deserve to feel at home in your body.
We’re here when you’re ready.
