And so, it is over. Our Residents have found new homes, our staff are scattering to the wind . Many taking a much needed collective breath before seeking other opportunities. The past 2 to 3 months have been have been more than challenging to say the very least. It has been more like working in a war zone with many of our loved ones being the casualties.

At this point, our last reason for working in our building rolled out around 2 pm.

If I might say so, this was the best, caring, team in the business and I can say this because one by one, as the Residents left, they told us this in many different ways. We pray collectively for each one of them and their family members that their new homes will be happy and well cared for.

It touched our hearts that so many showed us so much love these past few weeks. Thanking Lynn Hines and the Wiltermood family for treating us to Flatbread pizza's from the Wine Journal on Tuesday.

And last but not least, Thank You to our friends at St.Croix hospice for the beautiful parade (and dance)of Love, appreciation and encouragement on our last day. You had us in tears and stitches all at the same time. Sharing some photos of our incredible team in our last few days. (Wendy took most of them.)

For me, this has been a 26 year love affair with so very many Residents and Families coming thru my office. We have loved and remember each one and we Thank all for sharing your loved one's with us and allowing us to care for them and you in a very special and fragile times in their life. It has been a fantastic honor and privilege to do so. I was told at the time I was hired all those many years ago that at Adrian Manor, it is always "Residents First". I think most of us throughout the facility adhered to that purpose.

Always,
Liz Chancellor, SSD

O MY GOODNESS!!! Thank You Heartland Hospice for the really nice goody bags for our staff.

Thank You Good Shepherd Hospice for the very needed Energy Drinks.

WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO FOR US!!!

I know many of you have been following our page and noting we are not in the best of times right now. This has been the toughest times we have endured but trust me when I tell you that we have seen the best of humanity, the best of our community, the best from our Residents and their families, the best from our vendors and associates and the the absolute best from our employee's.

We have been blessed from many, many of you. Today, the Wine Journal brought us yummy pizza's, from an Anonymous Source. We thank you! We have had many family members send in sandwich tray's, Delicious cinnamon rolls from Byrds Pecan's, Cooler's full of Energy Drinks and delicious donuts from Koehns. Tons of goodies came in during the holidays that made us very, very grateful for all the love. It has all touched us in ways that are very hard to adequately put into words.

A note to our Residents and Family's: It has been our highest honor to care for your most cherished loved one's. They are very well loved by us and WE get much more back from them than we could ever wish for. Always and forever will they remain in our hearts and you will always remain our extended family members.

A simple Thank You seems so inadequate, But, Thank You so very much. Of course we and our very loved residents are ultimately very grateful for all of your many prayers for us. God bless you all and Please God continue to bless Adrian Manor and all facilities who are also experiencing these stressful times.

This is Sheila Wackerman from Adrian Manor. I have to inform you that we have had all but two of our residents test positive. We have moved the two negative residents and blocked off the end of the 100 hall to keep them reverse isolated. We have notified those resident’s families that have been involved in the moving and notified the families of the positive residents. We currently have a total of 5 staff off because of positive tests. Walgreens is definitely going to proceed with the vaccination clinic on January 12th. I will need the consent forms for the vaccination by the 8th . If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

This is Sheila Wackerman from Adrian Manor. I have to inform you that we have had four more residents test positive for COVID and two staff members today. We have notified those resident’s families that have been involved in the moving and notified the families of the positive residents. We have had 4 residents recuperate and have or will be moved back into the general population hall today. All residents are still isolated to their rooms. We will be testing staff on Tuesday and Thursdays, the residents will be retested again Monday. But we will be monitoring all residents closely for signs or symptoms. And if we see any resident starting to show any signs and symptoms we will test them at that time. This extends our isolation time again. We will have to go through at least 2 rounds of testing until we get 2 consecutive rounds with everyone being negative. I also want you to know that we had 3 state surveyors in today to do another Infection Control Survey and we had no deficiencies. They all three encouraged us to keep up the good work, even though we all are frustrated and as one of them stated it seems like we are swimming upstream like a salmon but we are making a difference. I have a great team, they are giving it their all to take care of our residents. Walgreens is definitely going to proceed with the vaccination clinic on January 12th. I will need the consent forms for the vaccination by the 8th . My nurses back in the positive unit are updating the number one emergency contact on record daily. But, if there is a change in condition they will contact the emergency person immediately. I am asking you to forward the information given to you on the daily basis to the other members of the family, so that we are not taking our nurses away from the direct care the residents need. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

We have now enlarged our positive unit to include the entire 200 hall. We have notified those resident’s families that have been involved in the moving and notified the families of the positive residents. All residents are still isolated to their rooms. We will be testing staff on Tuesday and Thursdays, the residents will be retested again Wednesday. But we will be monitoring all residents closely for signs or symptoms. And if we see any resident starting to show any signs and symptoms we will test them at that time. This extends our isolation time again. We will have to go through at least 2 rounds of testing until we get 2 consecutive rounds with everyone being negative. I did send out the information on the vaccine and the consent form. The vaccination clinic is scheduled for January 12th, but due to the increase in positive residents may be postponed to a later date. I will keep you informed of any changes. As you know, Christmas is not the time we were expecting COVID to hit our facility but here we are and we still want to make the holiday as bright as humanly possible for our residents.

If you would like to send a message of cheer through cards or a letters please bring them to the front door and someone will meet you there or mail in care of Adrian Manor, 402 W 1st Street, Adrian, MO 64720

Thank you for the ones who have already called and expressed your desire to give cards or decorations and those who have dropped off fruit plates and other gift items.
We appreciate you all.....MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Apparently there was a rumor that Crystal Manor had closed down so to clarify, they are very much open and currently have openings for new residents.

Crystal Manor is a 12 bed Assisted Living Facility in Adrian and is the sister facility to Adrian Manor. Both are owned by the City of Adrian.

We have notified their families and moved them to the positive COVID unit. All residents are isolated to their rooms. We will be testing staff on Tuesday and the residents will be retested this Thursday along with the staff. We will be monitoring all residents closely for s/s. If we see any resident starting to show and s/s we will test them at that time. We will have to go through at least 2 more rounds of testing until we get 2 consecutive rounds with everyone being negative. Unfortunately this means we will be postponing our Christmas party till everyone is cleared. This means we may not celebrate Christmas until sometime in January. If you as family members still want to bring your Christmas presents to your loved one, just let us know and drop it off at the front door. You can still video chat and window visit, we just ask that you call and schedule so that we can insure that we have the staff here to get it set up. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

This is Sheila Wackerman Administrator here at Adrian Manor. I have to inform you that we had a resident test positive today. That resident was already in our observation unit. We have already notified that resident's family and the resident was sent to the hospital. Everyone else seems to be doing fine. We will be monitoring everyone closely for s/s and will be retesting residents and staff on Monday and Tuesday of next week. We will have to go through at least 2 more rounds of testing until we get 2 consecutive rounds with everyone being negative. Unfortunately this means that everyone will stay in isolation until those 2 rounds of negative have been obtained. We have had to move some residents to extend our observation unit, and we have cordoned off the last 5 rooms on the 200 hall for our Positive COVID residents. We have already notified the families of those residents that we had to move. We did have state here today to do another infection control survey and we passed with no deficiencies. The state surveyors were very impressed with my staff, they said they could not find anything wrong with our procedures. I am very proud of my TEAM!!! I will keep you updated as our situation changes. Thank you.

12/03/2020

This is Sheila from Adrian Manor. Unfortunately I have to inform you that the update I sent out yesterday is no longer valid. I'm sad to say that yesterday afternoon we had another staff member test positive, so our residents have had to go back into isolation in their rooms. They were out for 24 hours before we had to isolate again. We are hoping to test on Monday and Thursday of next week, and if no one comes up positive before then or at that time we will be able to let them out again. This will put a hold on all of the indoor visits that we scheduled until we are cleared from outbreak. This is the reason we cannot schedule except on a weekly basis, because our COVID situation can change at a moment's notice. I will keep you updated as our situation changes.

12/02/2020

This is Sheila Wackerman from Adrian Manor with a COVID update. We are glad to say that we have made it through another round of testing and we are now cleared of the outbreak. All of my residents and staff have cleared with negative results. The residents were able to come out of their rooms last night for supper and are enjoying being out and about again. We have started our Christmas festivities, decorating the facility, playing Christmas Trivia games, and wearing Christmas attire. Everyone seems to be getting into the Christmas Spirit. Even though our community is still in high positivity rate, we have decided to start our indoor visits but we will have strict guidelines, and expect everyone to do their best to keep our residents safe. We will be taking appointments for indoor visits that will start Monday December 7th. We will only be scheduling visits for the top of the hour (8am – 6pm), the visits will be limited to only 2 people who will be thoroughly screened, masks are required, visits limited to 30 minutes which will allow us 30 minutes to disinfect the area for the next visit. We are asking that you only schedule one visit per week to allow all families to have an opportunity to visit with their loved one. We will take appointments one week at a time in order to allow for re-evaluation of our COVID situation. With Christmas approaching I know it is going to be difficult, but we are not allowing our residents to leave the facility for family gatherings. I have posted the DHSS guidance for LTC facilities during the Holidays on our website for all to see. This is the guidance we are going by. Our facility is not set up to allow residents who would choose to leave to come back and be isolated for the allotted amount of time. We do not have a big enough unit to allow them to be isolated. We are offering indoor visits, and you can always use the window visits, or call and video chat. We are planning our Resident and Staff Christmas party to coincide this year so that we can keep everyone distanced and safe. It will be on Friday December 18th at noon. We will be having a buffet, presents, and planning on streaming it live so family members at home can be a part of the celebration. Again I know we are asking a lot, but we truly are trying to keep your loved ones safe and are doing our best to make them feel special during this holiday season. Thank you for your understanding.

This is Sheila Wackerman from Adrian Manor with a COVID update. Unfortunately I have to report that we now have had a second staff member test positive for COVID. Since we just tested Tuesday our next round of testing will be done the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, but we will have to do a third round of testing on Monday November 30th because of the second staff positive. The residents will now have to be confined to their rooms through the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. We will still be serving them their traditional turkey dinner. We have had a few call and let us know that they would bring a special plate for their loved one. That is still encouraged. We will make sure your loved one gets the meal you bring to make them feel like that are not missing out on everything this Thanksgiving. We also are encouraging you to do window visits and or call and schedule a video chat. We are increasing the one on one visits to our residents in their rooms, our social service person will be checking on the residents also to ensure everyone is doing ok. We will be updating you at least on a weekly basis and more often if something comes up. Due to our community being a COVID hotspot right now and the holidays approaching, we would ask that you help us set an example for our community by wearing your mask when you go out and about and please remember to social distance. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. Thank you again for your patience and co-operation. We are truly trying to do our best to keep your loved ones safe

11/18/2020

This is Sheila Wackerman from Adrian Manor with a COVID update. Unfortunately I have to report that one of my staff members had a positive COVID test result yesterday. We have tested all residents and all staff and no residents had a positive test. After everyone has gone through two rounds of testing, with everyone coming back negative we will revisit the idea of indoor visits. Good news is no one is showing any signs or symptoms. Since the residents will be confined to their rooms as much as possible, all meals will be delivered to them as room trays. We will be updating you at least on a weekly basis and more often if something comes up. We will try and make this time as easy as possible for the residents by increasing activities one on ones in their rooms. We will also be available to do video visits, just call and let us know. Also you can still stop by and see your loved ones through the windows. Due to our community being a COVID hotspot right now and the holidays approaching, we would ask that you help us set an example for our community by wearing your mask when you go out and about and please remember to social distance. The sooner our community gets back in a low positivity rate the sooner we can allow indoor visits. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. Thank you again for your patience and co-operation. We are truly trying to do our best to keep your loved ones safe.

11/04/2020

This is Sheila Wackerman from Adrian Manor with another update. I know the holidays are approaching quickly, and we are trying to figure out a way to make these as special to our residents as we can. Since we cannot have families in to eat Thanksgiving meal with the residents we were wondering if we could get you to bring your family meal to us. We will still be serving a traditional Turkey lunch with all the fixings, but I know with my family, each child has a special dish that I try to fix for them during the holidays. We were wondering if any of you have special dishes that your loved one especially likes, we would like to have you bring in a Thanksgiving plate from your meal to share with your loved one. We would ask that you give us a call and let us know if and when you could bring the plate to your loved one.

I also checked our community positivity rate and we are in the yellow, but all of our surrounding counties are in the red (meaning High positivity). So unfortunately we are not opening up the indoor visits just yet. We have kept the virus out of the building thus far and are trying to do everything we can to continue to keep our residents safe. The outdoor visits are an option but our residents are not willing to get out in the cold. Therefore, we are encouraging you to call and set up video chats with the residents and ask that you try to set up window visits if possible. It is easier for you to bundle up and come see your loved than it is for them to endure the cooler temps.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. Thank you again for your patience and co-operation. We are truly trying to do our best to keep your loved ones safe.

This is Sheila Wackerman from Adrian Manor with a COVID update. I am glad to tell you that we completed our second round of COVID testing and all results were negative. So as of this morning all the residents are out of their rooms and social distancing throughout the facility. Everyone seems to be in good spirits and glad to be out of their rooms. Unfortunately I also checked our community positivity rate for Bates County this morning and we are now in the HIGH (RED) rate, which means all of our visits are still on hold. You can still do video chats, just call to schedule.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. Thank you again for your patience and co-operation. We are truly trying to do our best to keep your loved ones safe.

This is Sheila Wackerman from Adrian Manor with a COVID update. Unfortunately I have to report that one of my staff members had a positive COVID test result, so therefore all visits are cancelled at this time. We can restart the visits after everyone has gone through two rounds of testing, with everyone coming back negative. We will be testing all residents and all staff today. Good news is no one is showing any signs or symptoms and everyone was in good spirits yesterday after the fishing on Tuesday. Happy to announce that one of our favorite events will happen, just not in the traditional way.

We would love for you to bring your little trick or treaters to PARADE in front of the building for our Residents to see on Halloween. As the children exit the parade they will be given a really nice treat bag.

Covid Will NOT Ruin our Halloween!!!

We ask that you park in the employee parking lot and walk with your children in front of the big windows in the front.

We will be doing this from 4 to 5 PM on Oct. 31st. You will then have plenty of time to catch the Event on Main St. If you have any questions, please do feel free to call. 816 297 2107.

This is Sheila Wackerman with a COVID update. Just letting you know that we are continuing to test our staff twice a week and to date all tests have come back negative. The residents will not be tested until there is a positive case or they are showing signs and symptoms of COVID. New visitation guidance came out Friday and we are currently working on developing an indoor visitation policy and constructing an area inside for you as families to come see your loved ones. Once we get it up and running we will update you again and then begin taking appointments for indoor visits. The procedure will be similar to what we are currently doing for the outdoor visits, but we will definitely be limiting the number of visitors at one time and everyone will be required to wear a mask. The visits will also be dependent on the county positivity rate. If the facility has had no COVID cases for the last 14 days and the county positivity rate is low or medium visits can occur, but if county is in a high (red) positivity rate, visits will be stopped until county is back to medium or low. If it goes to medium then visitors may be encouraged to be tested on their own prior to coming to the facility (within 2 to 3 days) with proof of a negative test results and the date test was done.

We also have the state surveyors in our building doing our annual survey and an additional infection control survey. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give me a call. Thank you again for your patience and co-operation. We are truly trying to do our best to keep your loved ones safe.
