I wanted to take a moment to tell you what hairdressing means to me. I come from 3 generations of haircutters and I still feel that in my blood every day after 13 years of cutting hair. I am grateful for the life it has given me and I truly appreciate every head that comes through my door. After working my way up the ranks and after 5 years of owning the historic Paige's Barber Shop in the Historic Arts District of Dickinson Avenue, I felt it was time to go back to my family roots and realign my focus on my passion for cutting hair. So... my wife and I bought the old Speight Seed Farm house in Winterville, NC and decided to build out my salon right here at home before the birth of our first born daughter. I could not live the life I do without the support of every one of my clients and my family feels the most sincere gratitude to all of you. I do not take any of it for granted and I hope to continue giving you all that I've got for as long as i can.

I love giving people an experience they have never had before. There are a ton of excellent hair cutters out there and we all offer something unique. I think the real heart of what I do is connecting with people from all walks of life and letting my passion for service be a light that shines through every person in my chair. Lila Rae Marie arrived at 7:54am on August 10th and weighed 6lb 12oz. Mom and Lila are happy and healthy. My wife is superwoman and I’m so proud of her. I was not prepared for what I would feel. It was the most amazing experience of my life and I am so hopelessly infatuated with this baby girl!!!

Lila Rae Marie is scheduled for delivery on Thursday, August 18th!!! If you have an appointment on that day, or the days to follow, I will be contacting you to find a suitable time to reschedule. First piece of art is hung in the new shop and of course it’s my #1 favorite local artist BJ Smith .art. If you haven’t checked him out, he has done some absolutely incredible stuff. I picked up 3 pieces to hang in the new shop. If you are broke like me, he also has some prints of his work available.

I set up a loyalty rewards system for all my club members. My new business model has allowed me a lot more freedom to roll out the red carpet and take care of my people. I’m truly grateful for all of the support and I’m excited to use this opportunity to show you my appreciation.

My time at the old Paige’s Barber Shop is coming to an end. I will now be taking applications to join my Men’s Grooming Club on Speight Seed Farm Rd in Winterville. It’s with the same sadness that James Paige felt in this letter to his clients that I feel today announcing that I will be closing this historic barber shop for a second time.

13 years ago I got into hairdressing because I wanted freedom. Freedom from a boss, freedom from a time clock, freedom to enjoy what I do. It seems no matter how far you try to run from the system, you will always be a part of it. Opening a single chair independent hair studio in this historic barbershop was a dream for me and I thought it would be true freedom. Unfortunately the politics of owning a business in downtown Greenville has become more trouble than it’s worth. The direction Dickinson is going is not good for my business anymore and it’s time for me to move on and allow a business that would benefit by being there.

My clients are like family to me and many of you have followed me all over town for the last 13 years. The support and encouragement all of you have shown me will never be forgotten and with that in mind, I hope to make this last move my final destination. I plan to build a fully licensed dream salon on the historic property that my wife and I recently purchased and make it a worthwhile destination for those of you that decide to follow me on this journey. This is the last time I plan on EVER building a salon, so I plan to do it BIG on this build. It should be worth checking out!

Meanwhile… I expect construction to take the rest of this year and I will continue to take clients at Dickinson until it’s ready for the transition. Keep an eye on the website and social for updates and thank you for your support!
